My name is Shelly and I'm the Director of Armada Design Center here in Bellevue.  I am so excited to share this topic with you today in regards to budget friendly tile options.

The classic  subway tile is first, up let's talk about it.  Classic subway tile used to be white, plain, and simple, but now you can get so many different types of subway tile to add drama and excitement to your space, and it's still very budget friendly!  You can lay it

horizontally, vertically or even in an Herringbone pattern to create unique design without spending a fortune. There's also a really cool take on the subway tile that looks a little bit more organic.  One of the design trends of 2025 is all things organic. This is something that works really really well if you're wanting to bring that design style into your home.

Let's talk about porcelain and ceramic tile in a little bit more detail.  Sticking to porcelain and ceramic tile to stay within your budget is so critical.  I know we love the look of natural stone and its incredible beauty, but today you can get these same looks with porcelain and ceramic tile making them an excellent choice for your bathroom.  Make sure you avoid waterjet marbles, and natural stones.  Again, these can really escalate the price of your project so we want to be careful and steer clear of those.  Instead, purchase the porcelains and the ceramics that beautifully mimic those tiles. They have such great technology nowadays that it looks just like the real thing!

Let’s talk about eco-friendly options.  If you're looking for something environmentally friendly, consider recycled glass. These are beautiful and the materials not only look great but, they show off your commitment to sustainability while keeping more money in your pocket!  If you're aiming for a quick refresh consider simple updates like adding a colorful border or pattern tile accent.  Hexagon tile is a big deal in design today.  It comes in gorgeous patterns, textures, and sizes.  It’s inexpensive, easy to install, and can really help with your budget and not break the bank!

Timeless and trendy colors - Let's talk about it! Trendy colors for 2025 are deep, rich, earthy tones. You can take those trends and soften them a little bit so they have more longevity. Think navy blues, forest greens, and natural clay tones.  Things like these shades add depth and character to your bathroom ensuring your design is both stylish and timeless.

The size and cost is a big question I get all the time. “Shelly, does the size affect the cost of how much it's going to be for me to install this tile in my home?”  My answer is always yes and no.  The reason why is larger tile, 24 x 48 or even bigger 60 x 60, require more labor to install them so you have to think about more manpower, and you're going to be paying more for the smaller tile because you need more to get the job done.  Contrarily, small tile can be done by one installer so you're saving money in that regard.  It's really the installation complexity that impacts your budget.  Always consider the labor involved for choosing your tile size.

Let's talk about the placement for tile.  Knowing how much tile you need depends on your square footage and where and how you want to place it.  Consider using it in high moisture areas like your bathroom in the shower, on the walls, and on the floor and in your laundry room and kitchen.  Think about heated flooring if you are sensitive to cold underneath your feet.  We can have heated flooring installed for you.  It's wonderful and makes such a difference if you're in a colder environment.

The experts here at Armada Design Center are going to help ensure you have the right amount of tile, and the materials needed to complete your brand new space, beautifully.  If you need help with installation, perfect!  We've got you covered.  We offer installation on all the materials that we carry!
